WordPress Plugins Set no.2

Twitter Tools

Basically this plugin connects your Twitter account with your WordPress blog. After you install the plugin all you need to do is to type in your Twitter username and password (totally secure) and proceed with customizing your twitter-blog experience. You can choose to automatically send a tweet when you post a new article on your blog (here’s a demo) or automatically create a daily post (you can select the names of the posts, category and author) based on your tweets. Also you have the option of displaying a particular number of tweets in your sidebar or even have a Twitter-like form to post tweets right from your sidebar. However if these options are too much and you are just looking for a way to automatically create a tweet when you post a new blog article you might want to try twietterfeed. But hey, if you are looking for a all-in-one Twitter resources check out my other post related to this.

SmartLinks Widget

What this interesting plugin will do is to display a small, blue icon next to links on your blog. The link behavior remains untouched but when you click on the blue icon next to it a useful widget will pop up. That widget will contain relevant information and links related to whatever the links points to. Unfortunately SmarLinks will appear only when you will link to sites like Amazon, Yahoo! Finance, Citysearch, Wine.com, IMDb and LastFM. Another feature is that you can take advantage of SmartLinks by typing in your affiliate ID  for sites like Amazon, Ebay, LinkShare, Barnes & Noble, Booksense and Commission Junction. That way you can maximize your chances of earning revenue from affiliate campaigns you are involved id. If you are interested in this plugin and you found the above features appealing check out some screenshots or play with this example. If you’re not convinced than the following screencast might do the trick.

Maintenance Mode

Instead of displaying a faulty blog with temporary design or functionality problems to your readers, this plugin can show a maintenance page that has a customizable content which can inform your readers how much time your blog will be unavailable. However the rule doesn’t apply for the logged admin, so he will have full access (even to the blog’s front-end) during the time the blog will be in maintenance mode. Also you can choose to apply a filter regarding the paths that will still be accessible during the maintenance operation. When applicable, a message reminding you that the maintenance mode is active is present all around the admin interface.

iBegin Share

This plugin does not provide only shortcuts to different social or bookmarking sites but it helps you to save the content on your local disk or even print it. For more information related to this plugin please check out my other post.

MBP Stripe Ad

Unfortunately in order to use this plugin you need to register an account on MaxBlogPress. After you click on the confirmation link sent to you by email you will probably end up on a page with some blog traffic improvement methods mumbo-jumbo (that’s really pathetic). Finally, to get moving as soon as possible, scroll down the page and refuse the annoying offer. In the end when your account is active proceed to the plugin’s page in your admin interface and click on the “Verify” button. Enough with the intro which is like no other I’ve seen till now. Basically this plugin allows you to display a message on the top of your header which can be a link to whatever you want (an ad, an announcement, etc.). Styling options are available for a seamless integration with almost any blog design. Multiple links can be defined and they will rotate based on the “weight” of each link (a “heavier” link will dominate the spot and will appear much often than a “lighter” link). Also you can choose to always display that certain ad spot (fixed position) or you might want to display it let’s say only for the first 3 times a reader views your blog. Another great feature is that a “close” button can be displayed. Yet another disadvantage of this plugin is the fact that in order to remove the link that points out to MBP you have to pay the HUGE amount of $47. It’s not my business and everyone has the choice of pricing their work as they please but i think that the price is a little too much. I am almost sure that many will try to hack the link off and will succeed. I promise that i will find a better alternative to this plugin and include it in my next “WordPress Plugins Set” post.

PredictAd

Practically this plugin can help you enhance your WordPress search function with features like relevant auto-complete and text or image based ads. Again, if you want to read more information about this search solution feel free to read my other post.
