Mozilla rushes Firefox 2.0.0.12 out the door

As Firefox 3 is taking all of their time now, the guys from Mozilla hurried up and fixed a couple of critical issues in 2.0.0.11. I was thrilled to see that they have finally corrected the problem with “Crashes with evidence of memory corruption” as i was getting sick and tired of it.

In spite of the planned release day which was February 12, Firefox 2.0.0.12 was released to the public yesterday according to the same source, Mozilla’s wiki page.

I encourage you all to update your Firefox browser to the latest version.

asRep – a script that generates AdSense reports

This article is mainly for the ones that are considering taking security measures concerning their AdSense ads. I like to look at this script from the security perspective because in this bussines you can’t do anything else but be informed and aware, as information is the most valuable thing you can posses. This script that i found out about is the perfect choice if you don’t want your AdSense account banned for invalid clicks or other stupid reasons as in case of such problems you would have counter-statistical information which with you could tackle the reason of your banning. What this script does is mainly generate reports so that you can see what happens with your AdSense Ads. Although this script does it’s job more than well it is highly recommended that you monitor your stats via AdSense native reports and if you think you spotted something fishy make sure you announce AdSense Support Department right away. Just to make yourself an ideea about the information available in your reports generated by AdSense program and the reports generated by asRep you can check this comparison table out.

This script seems to give you considerably more information about the activity on your pages than AdSense reports do. I will not get into that (at least not at the moment) as a trial version is available for download. The bad news consist in the fact that it’s just for testing and evaluating purposes and the good news are that you can use it as long as you want (i was figuring out that some kind of 30 days trial policy would be kind of difficult to apply to a script). So, the evaluation version is exactly the same all that differs from the full version is the information in your reports. The trial version reports ar limited to:

  • Log reports
  • Overall total reports
  • Domain reports
  • Reffering domain reports
  • Visitor ip reports

meanwhile reports generated by the full version include information about:

  • Pages, directories and sub-directories
  • Ad Unit Channels
  • Search Box Channels
  • Referrer pages
  • Referring Search Terms
  • Visitor’s countries
  • Search box search term

Another pleasant aspect is that you can “take the script for a spin” just to see how it behaves. The price for this script is 50$, rather decent i’d say.
So if you want to be kept informed about your AdSense ads at a top level asRep is the right choice.

Download asRep

Gtalk multiple instances

Nowadays it’s almost a necessity, more than common to have multiple mail accounts, therefore the need of having more than one instance of your instant messaging program, in our case Gtalk is fairly onest.

All you need to do is to edit the target path of the original shortcut created by the install wizzard and to add the following launch parameter at the end of the line: /nomutex

There you have it ! Now you can have more than one instance of Google’s native instant messaging program, Gtalk.

Here is a picture for the ones that didn’t really understood the lines above:

StumbleUpon has a crappy front end

A couple of days ago i was verifying my password manager program just to make sure it’s up to date with my latest accounts. Next thing i know i get on the login page of famous StumbleUpon. I try to log in with my username and password but guess what? after i typed my info in the login fields and hit the glossy button that says “Sign in” the page refreshes and nothing happens. Oh well, it must be some kind of maintenance problem i’ve said to myself. It’s to be mentioned that i was trying to log in with an incorrect username NOT with my email address nor userid, the password was correct though. At least a message that says “Incorrect username or password, please try again” should appear, right ? just to let people know they’ve inputed an incorrect login info.

Finally, after many attempts i decided to hit the “Forgot your password?” link. After a few minutes an email arrived with my new password although i was expecting an email containing a confirmation link (just to avoid the unpleasent situations, of course). Very well, i went back on the login page and this time i used my email address and the new password they gave me. As many other people want to do, the first thing after their password has been reset is to change it to something more custom. Here comes the bomb: i spent like 10 minutes searching everywhere in my account info a hint to where is the “Change password” form located. Surprise ! such form doesn’t exist at StumbleUpon. Probably they consider that’s unnecesarry.

The other day i was trying to make sure the source of this problem isn’t me or something like this. But guess what? After i double checked the fact that StumbleUpon doesn’t have a “Change Password” form i realised that they don’t have a “Logout” button or at least some kind of link that says so. Freakin’ wonderful. So, to log out i had to delete my cookies from received from website.

Another interesting fact i observed after i managed to log in with my email address and close the browser (FF 2.0.0.11) a few times is that StumbleUpon’s home page needs a few refresh hits to detect your cookies and to display the member page. Between the refreshes i observed the page doesn’t have the “Login” link in the top right corner as it has when you acces their page the very first time.

Probably if no one notifies itself i will send an email to the support department at StumbleUpon, as a good friend of mine suggested.
