Shutterstock – sell your photos !

I’ve heard about this website one month ago and i think it’s a great opportunity to generate some revenue while you do what you like. If you take photos for a hobby you might want to check out Shutterstock.com as they help you sell your photos.

The program is quite simple. At first you just need to sign up and after you log into your account you can start uploading pictures. You can generate revenue from the simple fact that someone is downloading your pictures. At first your payout is $0.25 per photo but after you gain $500, a single photo download will then bring you $0.30.

It gets better and better as you can earn revenue not just by selling your photos but now you can reffer stock buyers and earn 20% of their subscription fee or you can reffer photographers and earn 3¢ for each of their download.

I think there’s nothing left for me to say just to wish you luck in generating as much revenue as you possible can.

Microsoft, Google, Yahoo! and Verisign joined OpenID

The upper mentioned companies joined OpenID following the ideea that there should be an unique shareable database containing all the information of any user who ever registered on a website, portal, forum, etc.

The huge amount of private information would be stockpiled in an enormous database (why not mysql ?). If MySQL will be chosen to store the information i can only imagine what will that mean for Sun Microsystems, as we all know that now Sun practically owns MySQL.

Thinking that the enormous amount of information will be stored in a single place and that database that holds it will be queryied like millions of times per day leaves me with this question in mind: are we ready yet for such data processing ? Maybe. The ideea itself scares me as i think that if something might go wrong the consequences would be catastrophic for everyone.

Let us have a look at the good side of things though, as they will evolve very fast and this new technology would make our lifes a lot more easier. It could be possible that we already have an OpenID and don’t know it. If you are using the following services you already have one:

AOL
openid.aol.com/screenname
LiveDoor
profile.livedoor.com/username
LiveJournal
username.livejournal.com
Orange (France Telecom)
http://openid.orange.fr/
SmugMug
username.smugmug.com
Technorati
technorati.com/people/technorati/username
Vox
member.vox.com
WordPress.com
username.wordpress.com

If you don’t use the services mentioned above you can get an OpenID from myOpenID.com and in the meantime while you’re there find out more relevant information about OpenID.

I am looking forward to this matter and hope for the best.

Wordpress theme k2 RC4 revision #631

For the ones that use the K2 theme for their Wordpress blog i thought it would be nice to let them know that a new revision has been made to this great theme and has been made available to the public. Of course i am talking about the Nightly build.

K2 is more than a theme (i like to think of it more like an engine that completes Wordpres itself) for the simple fact that it allows you to select different styles for the interface and has some absolutely wonderful features like the following:

  • User-friendly.
  • Admin-friendly.
  • 100% open source.
  • Semantic XHTML, CSS and JS structure.
  • Supports custom CSS files, the so-called ’styles’.
  • Smart layout adapts to needs.
  • Fully configureable from options page.
  • Upload and manage custom headers.
  • Sidebar Modules comes bundled (with special K2 modules) and support WordPress Widgets.
  • Live comment posting.
  • Livesearch.
  • Rolling Archives.
  • Dozens of plugins supported out-of-the-box.
  • Fam fam fam icons

I can’t go any further without putting the spotlight on these great AJAX-powered features: Live Commenting, Livesearch and the least but not the last: Rolling Archives. The good part is that this theme doesn’t need any third-party plugins, but it also has native support for the plugins listed here. One more thing that many Wordpress themes don’t get to have is a dedicated forum for the ones who care to know more things about this great theme or just want to customise it’s look and touch.

Another great thing is it’s Bug Tracker and the list with it’s official styles and mods. This project is managed just like an open-source program which is truly amazing.

SongBird – a project powered by Mozilla

Get SongbirdThis black, quite little player that looks much like MusicMatch Jukebox which is powered by Yahoo and MusicMatch Inc. stands up with… nothing, well at least except for the concept of playing music “from the web” as it is the first Web player. Let’s not be too harsh with this project powered by Mozilla because afterall it’s just in it’s developer stage yet it has plenty of addons which is good news. I must say i had a good laugh when i saw the tab entitled “Feathers”. It has a great support even if there are no forums yet; the blogs may have to compensate for that. The “mozilla touch” kicks in even in the design of the website.

An interensting fact is that the crew behind this project called “Pioneers of the Inevitable” had their contributions (hatchlings as they like to call it) over at Winamp and Yahoo! Music Engine. I think i don’t need to say that this player integrates more than well with the Firefox browser.

At this certain moment i would say there would be three problems with this player: the fact that it has a big load time, doesn’t have support for skins and there are no options for helping you configuring any kind of output plugin available.

It has a more than a user friendly interface, dynamic content as the GUI seems to be inherited from Firefox, which is not a bad ideea but a little more sound-related stuff would be kindly appreciated. So, if you know your whereabouts with Firefox you shouldn’t have any problems with this Web player.

I think what this player want’s to achieve is more than laudable because it encourages people to buy tunes (or at least “borrow” them by listening to them online) insead of stealing them.

Disregarding the privacy policies and all that other privacy related crap, i also had a nice laugh when i saw the ending of the subscription email:

Here are some pictures with SongBird just to help you see how much it’s alike Firefox:

Well, if you like this project and want to get involved the first step would be viewing their resources page or why not, jobs.

Oh, i forgot to mention that it’s free but that isn’t such a big surprise isn’t it ? and you want to know why is that so ? because Mozilla’s behind it. Long live the power of choice and people who support open-source.
