The lack of human interaction within the Akismet system seems to affect different platforms. Of course, one of them is WordPress which has a native Akismet plugin, by default.

Why is Akismet a danger for bloggers ? Here’s a basic example: If a blogger posts an article and a few persons decide to post comments to that article, which the author (who is probably the blog owner) doesn’t like, he might mark some comments as spam, in spite of the fact that those comments are valid (but just use a different approach on the subject).

That’s a nasty example of a cruel blog owner. If the flagged comment author has a blog then he has at least one problem. This will affect his ability of getting some traffic back to his blog by commenting on different blogs and other drawbacks.

This method seems to be used between competing blog owners but it can happen to anyone. Unfortunately Akismet doesn’t provide any kind of protection regarding this problem and when you have the bad luck of being flagged you can only hope that someone from the small staff will get back to you and promise that your situation will be analyzed and hopefully solved, after you send them an email describing your problem, of course.

Firstly, Akismet should provide a contact form for this kind of problems. Of course if that happens, a huge amount of email (valid and spam as well) will “bombard” the contact address (and i don’t think they can deal with that). That isn’t a good thing for the small staff behind Akismet. Remember that Akismet is a free service ! If Akismet decides to cry out for help (before the whole system comes down) they should consider very well what kind of help is offered and from where it comes.

I think Akismet should also provide some kind of registration system based on email addresses. Every email address will have a corresponding password which you will have to fill in when you post a comment. Otherwise you won’t be able to leave a comment. This however is not such a great idea because basically you will need to have an Akismet account (this can have a bunch of advantages) to leave a comment. But there is an alternative. Some checkboxes to choose the comment system which you want to use when leaving a comment. Of course this is really complicated and it shouldn’t be, but given the stats this problem should concern everyone.

Why should there be a registration system ? Here’s a reason: Let’s say i have 5 blogs on which i have admin privileges. I post several comments using the e-mail address i want to be flagged by Akismet and the mark them as spam. That’s all. Now all valid comments from that email will be filtered by Akismet. I hope i didn’t give you some bad ideas.

The purpose of this article is to highlight some potential problems and to notify whoever reads it. I belive Akismet could be the next major spam filtering entity out there for blogs (if it isn’t already).

It’s a scam and you can figure that out just by thinking that it’s not natural for a movie to impose a program with which to be played with.

The actual video format does not support any kind of coding possibility to display a message like that. The moment you see a message that says “Please download DomPlayer in order to see this movie…”, etc. you ought to know that’s a fake file.

In many cases when you get on the website (example 3wPlayer, Cash4Downloads) written in the message which is displayed by the fake file you are encouraged to pay for some non-existing miracle video player or you could find yourself downloading a spyware program. Just try to search on google “DomPlayer” to see what kind of results you’re getting :)

Take care and avoid this kind of scams.

This article is mainly for the ones that are considering taking security measures concerning their AdSense ads. I like to look at this script from the security perspective because in this bussines you can’t do anything else but be informed and aware, as information is the most valuable thing you can posses. This script that i found out about is the perfect choice if you don’t want your AdSense account banned for invalid clicks or other stupid reasons as in case of such problems you would have counter-statistical information which with you could tackle the reason of your banning. What this script does is mainly generate reports so that you can see what happens with your AdSense Ads. Although this script does it’s job more than well it is highly recommended that you monitor your stats via AdSense native reports and if you think you spotted something fishy make sure you announce AdSense Support Department right away. Just to make yourself an ideea about the information available in your reports generated by AdSense program and the reports generated by asRep you can check this comparison table out.

This script seems to give you considerably more information about the activity on your pages than AdSense reports do. I will not get into that (at least not at the moment) as a trial version is available for download. The bad news consist in the fact that it’s just for testing and evaluating purposes and the good news are that you can use it as long as you want (i was figuring out that some kind of 30 days trial policy would be kind of difficult to apply to a script). So, the evaluation version is exactly the same all that differs from the full version is the information in your reports. The trial version reports ar limited to:

Log reports

Overall total reports

Domain reports

Reffering domain reports

Visitor ip reports

meanwhile reports generated by the full version include information about:

Pages, directories and sub-directories

Ad Unit Channels

Search Box Channels

Referrer pages

Referring Search Terms

Visitor’s countries

Search box search term

Another pleasant aspect is that you can “take the script for a spin” just to see how it behaves. The price for this script is 50$, rather decent i’d say.
So if you want to be kept informed about your AdSense ads at a top level asRep is the right choice.

Download asRep
